University Herbarium hack: Help us unlock our collections - from the comfort of your home!

All day from Friday 26 March until Sunday 4 April

Times shown are in GMT (UTC +0) up to the 27th March. For events on or after 28th March times are in BST (UTC +1).

Take part in this exciting and new-for-Cambridge citizen science project!

With over a million specimens in the University Herbarium, we are going to need your help to unlock the data these botany specimens hold. Over the course of the Cambridge Festival, pop in online when you can and help us out by transcribing plant labels from high resolution images we have taken of the specimens. These records will help us to catalogue this huge but sorely understudied collection of plants, and will be fed into global conservation, science, and heritage research efforts.

Full instructions on how you can do this, as one of our ‘virtual volunteers’, will be given. From deciphering 18th century handwriting, to labels typed in a tropical forest between World Wars, these specimens will hold many important secrets – help us to harness them, all from the comfort of your own home.

Booking/Registration is: REQUIRED

Registering your interest will mean you receive the link to join the event on the day, and updates and reminders before and after the event. Registration will be open until just before the event starts. You can unsubscribe from updates at any point.
