How do mental training and calm attention shape the brain and behaviour? This interactive presentation, led by Dr Prashant Kakoday in a collaboration between Cambridge Inner Space and the Centre for Integral Health, brings together findings from major scientific collaborations with NIMHANS, AIIMS and INMAS.
Drawing on fMRI (functional magnetic resonance imaging), EEG (electroencephalography) and clinical studies, the talk explores how attention-focused training influences neural networks that are linked to self-regulation, emotional stability and wellbeing. Research highlights include functional brain mapping during calm states, reduced anxiety when meditation complements clinical treatment and enhanced cognitive performance measured through gamified EEG paradigms.
Presented in accessible language with visuals and discussion, the session invites participants to reflect on how these scientific insights might inform personal and societal approaches to mental balance and wellbeing. By linking rigorous research with everyday experience, the event aims to spark open dialogue on the science of calm and the brain’s remarkable capacity for adaptation.
