10:30am-4:00pm on Saturday 21 March
Computer Laboratory, William Gates Building 15 JJ Thomson Avenue, CB3 0FD
Cambridge University’s Computer Science Department was the first in the world when it opened its doors in 1937. Take a tour to discover relics of EDSAC, the first usable and programmable computer that was built here in the 1940s, and learn how it helped Cambridge scientists to win several Nobel Prizes. See a 1960s computer keyboard that’s as big as a table, and one of the original Raspberry Pis, the credit-card-sized computer that started life here. Then look around to find out more about the computing research we do today in areas ranging from climate science and health to robotics and cybersecurity.
Tours will be running all day as part of our Computer Science Open Day, and are just one of many activities that will be taking place in the building.
