Many of us can relate to the idea of having ‘too much stuff’: sometimes wishing our possessions did not clutter our lives and living spaces. Still, many often find it difficult and even stressful to dispose of possessions.
In this talk, Dr Sharon Morein, Associate Professor at Anglia Ruskin University, will consider what can lead people to accumulate belongings and exhibit hoarding tendencies. When excessive, these can lead to hoarding disorder, a distressing and impairing mental health condition. She will also consider how hoarding can relate to other conditions, such as attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), and how it can indeed relate to us all.
Dr Morein (aka Morein-Zamir) holds a PhD from the University of British Columbia in Canada and has spent time researching and teaching on three separate continents. She has published over 50 publications in peer-reviewed journals, and through her work is helping to advance the understanding of various mental health conditions, including hoarding disorders.
