Chemistry:
Chemical clock reactions are also known as oscillating reactions and have many uses. For example, catalysis, chemical sensors, medical diagnostics, smart materials and synthetic biology. In this session we will learn about some of the uses in environmental monitoring and chemistry kinetics. Using standard lab equipment, you will follow a given protocol to prepare a chemical clock, then collect and record data when measuring the chemical clock changes. You can then investigate how to speed up or slow the clock down and test your formula by making a new clock and collecting more data. This practical work will highlight the versatility and potential of chemical clock reactions in advancing technology and improving our understanding of complex chemical systems.
Weird science: unusual physics!
Come, see and experiment with some unusual physics phenomena!
Pig may fly, levitation, candles burning under water, magic mirrors, world turned upside-down, making electricity from (almost) nowhere and a range of other items which you can try to explain. All quite safe, so experimentation is encouraged ………… you may even discover something new.
Fun but thought-provoking for all ages!
