2:00pm-3:00pm on Tuesday 24 March
Alison Richard Building, Sidgwick Site 7 West Road, CB3 9DT
Conceived by choreographer Adrienne Hart (founder of Neon Dance) and artist-researcher Dr Ana Rajcevic (MIT), the "Sonic Body" project invites participants of all ages and abilities to explore how our bodies can sense, connect, and communicate in playful and surprising ways.
The event draws inspiration from visionary artists Arakawa (1936–2010) and Madeline Gins (1941–2014), who imagined architecture as a living system that interacts with the body. Just as their innovative designs encouraged movement and heightened awareness, "Sonic Body" uses sound and wearable sculptures as a new kind of dynamic architecture—one that you can touch, move through, and play with.
The project celebrates the intelligence of natural structures: Ana's designs are inspired by spider's webs. The sculptures are made up of threads, which respond to touch and movement in a similar manner to the web, which is both a structure and a means of communication.
No dance or musical experience necessary! This is a chance to play, explore, and discover how our bodies can make music, shape space, and connect with others.
