The Science of Art

10:00am-4:00pm on Saturday 29 March

Times shown are in GMT (UTC +0) up to the 26th March. For events on or after 27th March times are in BST (UTC +1).

Fitzwilliam Museum, Trumpington Street, CB2 1RB

Join us for a day of free activities for all the family! Behind the art that surrounds us in the Fitzwilliam Museum are stories of science, material and making. Come and take part in a series of hands-on activities and trails that will invite you to awaken your curiosity and discover some of these stories of creation, preservation, and restoration. How did a whale suddenly appear on a painting, over a hundred years after it had arrived at the Museum? What can centuries old art tell us about the science of clouds? How can modern technology help us look beneath the surface to see how artworks were made?

This day of family fun has been created by The Connections Group, a team of local residents who have produced work with the Fitzwilliam Museum since 2022. There is no need to book, just drop in on the day and get involved.
