5:20pm-10:30pm on Friday 22 March
Cambridge Arts Picturehouse, 38-39 St. Andrews Street, CB2 3AR
How do we talk about the future of science? How does film help us picture that future? How close are sci-fi and sci-fact?
Join us for the launch of the Just. Good. Science. Film Festival (coming March 2025) and spend an entertaining evening considering these questions with help from creative storytellers and career scientists.
We start with the award winning documentary 'Human Nature' on the revolutionary gene editing tool CRISPR-Cas9, told through the eyes of the researchers at the cutting edge of this discovery.
After a short break, it's back to your seats for a rare big screen showing of the cult sci-fi
blockbuster 'Gattaca'. Back in 1997, this film was already wondering what a genetically edited future might actually look like. But did it get close?
Then it’s time for our main feature - 'Chattaca'. A chance to talk things over in the Picturehouse Bar with Cambridge researchers and healthcare professionals who are working in this area today.
What's fact, what's fiction, and what do we want to find out next?
Your ticket provides entry to ‘Chattaca’, where a light buffet and one drink per person will be onoffer. Ticket holders can also enjoy 20% off any other drinks and food at the Picturehouse throughout the evening, and the complimentary double bill of Human Nature and Gattaca beforehand.
Start Time and End Time:
5.25pm - 7pm: 'Human Nature' screening
7.15pm - 9pm: 'Gattaca' screening
9pm - 10.30pm: private 'Chattaca' discussion event
Please note - there will be no trailers shown at this event, and both films start promptly at the advertised time.
