12:30pm-2:00pm on Tuesday 5 April
Faculty of Divinity, Sidgwick Site, West Road, CB3 9BS
An interactive and thought-provoking session with Cambridge Interfaith, reading and reflecting together on passages on the theme ‘Sacred’ from Muslim, Jewish and Christian scriptures.
Scriptural Reasoning is a tool for interfaith dialogue whereby people of different faiths come together to read and reflect on their scriptures. Unlike many forms of interfaith engagement, Scriptural Reasoning is not about seeking agreement but rather exploring the texts and their possible interpretations across faith boundaries. The result is often a deeper understanding of others and one’s own religious texts, as well as the development of strong bonds across faith communities.
This is an introductory workshop and content will be accessible to persons of any faith. The structure will include an overview of Scriptural Reasoning. Participants will then break into small groups, guided by a facilitator, to experience Scriptural Reasoning.
Our theme is chosen to connect with the exhibition, Shared Sacred Landscapes, on display at the Faculty of Divinity during the Festival. Learn more about this research and browse an online version of the exhibition at https://sharedsacred.com/.
About Cambridge Interfaith Programme:
Based in the Faculty of Divinity, Cambridge Interfaith Programme seeks to enable globally-significant research in interfaith studies with a strong focus on the Abrahamic traditions, in order to better understand the complex and diverse relationships between traditions, and between those traditions and secular societies. We also seek to apply that research in appropriate, practical, and innovative ways, and to communicate and share our work creatively for the benefit of society, shaping debate about and between religions nationally and internationally.
