“Listen to the rumoured motion of the rumoured bodies on the rumoured shore… Listen to Ness.”

Adapted from Robert Macfarlane and Stanley Donwood’s poem, Ness, this immersive sonic performance responds in real time to the environmental conditions on Orford Ness, a former nuclear test site off the Suffolk coastline, as five forms of nature converge on the Ness to see off the threat of nuclear annihilation, at the ‘Green Chapel,’ aka Atomic Research Weapons Establishment, lab one. It is a geo-spatial audio performance that invites you to imagine yourself on Orford Ness as you wander a natural landscape of your choosing. All you need are headphones and a smartphone. For more information including how to download and listen to the performance, please visit:

This is an app-based audio performance created using bespoke technology that responds to your movements. It is designed to be listened to at walking pace, and so far has been listened to in landscapes all over the world, from Berlin to Brazil.
