11:00am-4:30pm on Saturday 22 March
Computer Laboratory, William Gates Building 15 JJ Thomson Avenue, CB3 0FD
In this workshop you will meet the computer science researchers who have created an algorithm to take an ear canal facing microphone, commonly found in noise-cancelling earphones, and use the signal to estimate your heart rate and breathing rate. You will be provided with some earphones equipped with an ear canal facing microphone to see the results yourself. The demo can be done while sat in a chair or walking around the demo room. The researchers will explain the occlusion effect created by earbuds and how this enables us to see heart sounds in the ear canal as well as you having the chance to see these signals yourself. Following the session, you will be able to chat with the researchers about this technology or how we think it could benefit public health.
