2:00pm-4:00pm on Saturday 29 March
Lawrence Room, Girton College, Huntingdon Road, CB3 0JG
One of the hidden gems of Cambridge is Girton's Lawrence Room museum, where Roman and Anglo-Saxon grave goods discovered on the college site itself sit alongside artefacts from ancient Egypt, Mesopotamia and Greece donated by college members over the years. Look into the eyes of the 2,000-year-old portrait mummy, Hermione Grammatike. Study pearlescent Roman glassware and delicate Egyptian amulets and gems. Find out about a recent excavation in the College grounds, and discover the network of scholars and supporters who brought the collection together. Before leaving, enjoy a walk among the trees, lawns and spring flowers of the College, an oasis of calm away from the bustle of central Cambridge. https://www.festival.cam.ac.uk/events/lawrence-room-girton-college
