The volcanic islands of Iceland, Hawaii and La Palma in recent years have all experienced lava flows from recent volcanic eruptions. Lava flows are hot flows of molten rock that are erupted from volcanoes all over the world. There are different types of lava flows and dependent on the properties of the lava, they can pose different risks to communities living close to volcanoes. Prepare to get messy in this session as we’ll be using sticky substances model how viscosity and other properties affect the ‘rheology’ of lava flows!
Presented by Dr Lara Mani from the Global Volcano Risk Alliance.
