St Catharine's College, Chapel, St Catharine's College Trumpington St CB2 1RL, CB2 1RL

As the climax to his residency at the Cambridge Faculty of Music and St Catharine’s College, the choirs of St Catharine’s will premiere two new commissions by Nigel Osborne.

Cobblestones (2025) (soprano, alto, tenor and bass) is a choral setting of a poem by Giles Sutherland that captures the tragedy of the lost identity of Ukraine, which has been erased by the brutality of the war.

Hornbills, Rocks and Riffs (2025) was composed for Ian Cross on guitar with choral accompaniment, and takes as its inspiration the sound of prehistoric rock gongs from Lolui Island in Lake Victoria, Uganda.

The event is presented in association with the Cambridge Music Conference and the Faculty of Music, and is part of the first Carmack Composer Residency.
