Professor Mintz Habib, Founder of the Centre for Resilience and Sustainable Development at the University of Cambridge, and biologist Professor Giles Yeo, author of books including Why Calories Don't Count, are in conversation about the long-term impact of diet and hunger on our physical and mental development.

Giles Yeo is Professor of Molecular Neuroendocrinology at the University of Cambridge and programme leader at the MRC Metabolic Diseases Unit in Cambridge. His research currently focuses on the influence of genes on feeding behaviour and body-weight. In addition, he is a fellow of Wolfson College and Honorary President of the British Dietetic Association. Giles is also a broadcaster and author, presenting science documentaries for the BBC, and hosts a podcast called ‘Dr Giles Yeo Chews The Fat’. His first book ‘Gene Eating’ was published in December 2018, and his second book ‘Why Calories Don’t Count’ came out in June 2021. Giles was appointed an MBE in the Queen’s 2020 birthday honours for services to ‘Research, Communication and Engagement’. He won the Society for Endocrinology Medal in 2022.

Professor Nazia M Habib is the Founder and Research Centre Director for the Centre for Resilience and Sustainable Development (CRSD). She holds a Professor equivalent post with appointments at the Department of Engineering and Department of Land Economy at the University of Cambridge. Professor Habib has also advised over 20 governments on sustainable development and climate change related policy issues. She was recognised on the Commonwealth Day 2023 by the King of England at the Buckingham Palace for her research on the Commonwealth Small State. Professor Habib is currently setting up the world’s first food system.
