10:30am-4:00pm on Saturday 21 March
Computer Laboratory, William Gates Building 15 JJ Thomson Avenue, CB3 0FD
Meet some of the researchers from the Institute of Computing for Climate Science who are developing AI projects to address climate change.
They include scientists who are developing a new AI tool that provides governments with deeper insights into the climate crisis. Come along to try out their ‘AI for climate and nature land use dashboard’ to see if you can identify decisions – such as reducing fossil fuel production or halting deforestation – that could help to cut greenhouse gas emissions and mitigate global warming.
Or try the ‘Drowning cities’ activity and discover how AI can help to predict and prevent flooding. Build your own Lego town and test your skills by answering a series of multiple-choice questions to see if you can keep it safe from floods. Meet researchers who can explain how climate change and storm surges are increasing the risk of flooding, and how AI is being used to predict the occurrence of these events.
These activities are just some of many taking place during the Department of Computer Science and Technology Open Day.
