A modern discontent, modern psychic symptoms, overconsumption new kind of addictions, cynical indifference, and raw violence, shape among others the map of clinical psychopathology in the 21 st century. How psychoanalysis illuminates the above phenomena and why are they intrinsically connected to the decline of fatherhood which characterizes our era? We will be given the chance to illustrate the utility of the paternal function to the psychic world of the child, a function that is not restricted to the male sex necessarily. In parallel, we will analyze the current crisis the traditional fatherhood undergoes and its imprint on the psyche today.
