Join Professor Sharon Peacock and Dr Katerina Galai from the COVID-19 Genomics UK (COG-UK) consortium to learn about genomic sequencing of SARS-CoV-2, the virus causing COVID-19, and how this work helps to understanding transmission, how to treat the disease and the effectiveness of vaccines. Professor Peacock and Dr Galai will talk about the rapid formation of COG-UK in March 2020, how it has evolved since then, and answer questions from the audience.

Led by Professor Sharon Peacock of the University of Cambridge, COG-UK is an innovative partnership of NHS organisations, the four Public Health Agencies of the UK, the Wellcome Sanger Institute and 16 academic partners. Since October 2021, when all routine SARS-CoV-2 genome sequencing was handed over to the Public Health Agencies, COG-UK has focused on research, training and data linkage in order to maximise the value to the genomic data generated.

COG-UK is based in the Department of Medicine at the University of Cambridge. This event is in partnership with the Cambridge Infectious Diseases Interdisciplinary Research Centre.
