10:00am-4:00pm on Saturday 21 March
Ray Dolby Centre, Cavendish Laboratory JJ Thomson Avenue, CB3 0US
As part of the wider Cambridge West day, the Cavendish Laboratory’s new Ray Dolby Centre will be opening its doors from 10am to 4pm on Saturday 21st March for a day of physics talks and hands-on activities. Please see our website for full details and timings, and to book tickets.
Join us to:
- learn about the history of the Cavendish, the complex physics of a lightbulb, what particle physicists actually do, and the links between jet engines and cricket balls in talks from Dr Harry Cliff, Sciansell, The Bad Boy of Science, and Dr Sam Grimshaw
- discuss physics demonstrations with current researchers and students from the Department
- experiment with a camera obscura overlooking Cambridge, set up by the Engineering Department’s Chief Technician, Will Hay
- marvel at the cosmos in one of our planetarium sessions
- make a mess (and learn some physics!) with our hands-on make-and-do activities
- see how our physicists are using light to detect disease faster, cheaper, and more effectively than ever before
- use your problem-solving skills to break out of our physics-themed escape room.
Booking for talks is advised to avoid disappointment. The planetarium and escape room require advance booking. Please contact outreach@phy.cam.ac.uk with any queries.
